The celebs are sometimes like us

So, I watched the latest episode of Castle this morning. I like that show. I don't have to focus while watching it and I always get the name of the killer. And a fan of TV shows of my caliber sometimes needs that. Everybody was tweeting about the Firefly reference, that Nathan Fillion said on the show. It was almost at the end and it was just a single chinese sentence. The normal viewer would laugh, but not me. I started to scream of maximum geekeness.

Isn't is just awesome, when also the actors, or so called "celebrities" are geeks also? I personally like the geeky ones much better. And that is the thing I want to share tonight. Do we, geeks/ nerds/ crazy people love celebrities for who they are, or do we love them because of they represent?

I organise a little convention in my city. Every year, I say to the visitors, that my live long plan with this convention is to bring there Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton, Simon Pegg, Nathan Fillion or Michael Cera. But, they actually aren't that famous outside of our circle. Every time when I want to talk about The Guild, Scott Pilgrim or the newest appearance of Wil Wheaton in The Big Bang Theory with my classmates, I have to explain first what they actually do and what is so funny about it.

It's actually really funny, if you think about it more. Do they even realise that they are adored by some group of random people in a small country called Slovakia? Do they know, that if they came to Bratislava during IstroCon, they would be immediateley surrounded by a group of screaming fans? I don't think so. They are just normal geeks with Facebook, Twitter or Gmail accounts. And that is what we love about them. Personally, if I met Simon Pegg on the street, I would probably faint.

Those accounts on social networks make them look more real and the barrier between you as a fan and the object of your fan love is absolutely destroyed by TMI tweets. And also, don't get me wrong here- I'm still a student with very little money to cover my expenses and if I had the extra money I would be glad to help- but I get sometimes sick, when they are tweeting, writing and linking all the time to sites to give money too.

By the way, while I'm still on topic, I have a new addiction! It's Charlie McDonnell (CharlieIsSoCoolLike). Which is my new personal hero and celebrity nr.1. I don't know, how did I live without him. I saw some of his videos in the past, but now I watched them all and fell kind of in love. And I also made a little Charlie psychosis in my little group.

So, love the celebrities. I hope they are real people and not machines.
(I attended a perfect lecture where the guy said, that celebrities are actually a human-made human mashine for making money. As an example, he mentioned the Madonna bra. People fell in love with the imaginary body strucutre a bought those bras to look like her. And that made Madonna the mashine. I really hope, that Simon Pegg is not a mashine (which reminds me, I still didn't get his new book!!! Er...)).
